May 1, 2007, the Municipality of Århus had once again put 400 free city bikes on the streets. The official presentation took place by “Colliers Classic” Sunday, May 6. Councilman Gert Bjerregaard led the main field of city bikes along with our Danish Champions of basketball from Bakken Bears.
City bikes have been a great success
The two-year trial period with 400 municipal city bikes in Århus has been such a great success that the city council has determined that the arrangement will be permanent. The city bike trial period has been evaluated by Danish Market Analysis. The evaluation shows that the city bikes are very popular.
The story of a city bike in Berlin
One of our Århus city bikes ended up in Berlin in 2006. Maybe it wanted to explore the city bike arrangement of Berlin. Before it was returned to Århus, city bike no. 306 took a little trip around Berlin with Len who found it.
Tracking devices against privatization
Based on suggestions received from a number of users to equip the bikes with a tracking device such as GPS or a satellite based system, we have looked into the possibility and prices and unfortunately, it is not financially possible to introduce it at present time, but we will be keeping up with the new developments
